World of warcraft upgrade to burning crusade?

I downloaded world of warcraft the original one. Now i want to upgrade to burning crusade, i have the disk but when i try to download it the installer says; "please download world of warcraft before upgrading to burning crusade" i definitely have world of warcraft and it is up to date on patches. What do i do?
